Backpackers hostel

In almost every country that you can travel to today you will find a large number of backpackers’ hostels, though they may not necessarily go by that name. Backpacking has become a popular form of travel among today’s youth, simply because its costs are kept to a minimum. Backpacking is defined as low-cost travel, generally urban, with minimal luggage and frugal accommodations. It is similar to bush backpacking in that personal belongings are also carried in a backpack for the duration of the trip. A backpackers’ hostel provides budget oriented, sociable accommodation, where guests can rent a bed, sometimes a bunk bed, in a dormitory and share a bathroom, lounge and sometimes a kitchen. Rooms can either be mixed or single-sex, although private rooms may also be available in certain individual hostels. Hostels are generally cheaper for both the operator and the occupants, and many hostels employ their long-term residents as desk clerks or housekeeping staff in exchange for free accommodation.

In most countries a diversion to the nearest tourism bureau will give you access to literature listing all or many of the backpackers’ hostels available in that country. In South Africa there is an excellent little publication called “Coast to Coast – African Beat” that lists most of the country’s
Backpackers’ hostels as well as giving important advice to young travellers about some of the

• Detailed quote must be in writing, must be inclusive of all fees such as taxes, surcharges and service fees and must be presented to us prior to booking.
• Fare must be available and able to be booked by the general public when you bring it to us.
• Fares available due to membership of a group or corporate entity or subscription to a closed group are excluded.
• We may offer you an alternative date/airline to get you the best price, but should you be less flexible we guarantee to better whatever you bring us – apples for apples.
• We will better the price by R20 on domestic airfares and R50 on international airfares.
