Backpackers’ inns

It is impossible to distinguish between backpackers’ hostels and backpackers’ inns, since the two are seemingly identical. The word ‘inn’ seems to be used much more often in the Americas and to a small extent in certain parts of Australia. However, backpackers’ inns (whatever name they go by) can be found in just about every country that you can travel to these days. Backpacking is an extremely popular form of travel among today’s youth. If you can carry all that you need in a backpack or haversack, it’s far easier to get around from one place to another. Most students are not that worried about where they sleep – they just need somewhere where they can get their heads down for a few hours, and backpackers’ inns provide just that; somewhere to rent a bed or a bunk bed for the night at a cost that is considerably cheaper than an hotel. 

Backpackers’ inns vary from one setting to another. More often than not you’ll fine that the accommodation is in dormitories with bunk beds. The bathroom is often shared, and there is sometimes a kitchen for self-catering, though some of the inns actually provide a limited meal service as well. If you were planning on a backpacking tour of a particular country or part of the world, you would do well to find out about the facilities for backpackers before you set out. Try writing to the national tourism office of the place you intend to visit and ask about any publications they may have for backpackers. Many countries will be able to provide you with a publication listing what backpackers’ inns there are, their location and their cost.

• Fare must be available and able to be booked by the general public when you bring it to us.
• Fares available due to membership of a group or corporate entity or subscription to a closed group are excluded.
• We may offer you an alternative date/airline to get you the best price, but should you be less flexible we guarantee to better whatever you bring us – apples for apples.
• We will better the price by R20 on domestic airfares and R50 on international airfares.
