Gap Year

For a student or other young person with no monetary or family commitments, a gap year can seem like the ideal way to experience a little about what life is all about before starting college or university or before returning to the reality of work. However, like many other things in life, there are usually major hurdles to overcome. Firstly there is the question of financing the gap year. If a person is lucky enough to have generous parents or other funds available, or for those who will be working during their gap year, this poses very few problems. For many other people who are hoping to travel during their year off, it may mean raising the finance by taking a temporary job or asking parents to help out financially. With student debts at an all time high coupled with the present financial downturn, getting hold of the necessary funds can prove to be very difficult and delays are often inevitable.

There are ways around that, and it is at least possible to raise some of the funding by taking a gap year job overseas. The United States is an excellent example of a destination where young people can work to supplement their gap year break. There are plenty of seasonal jobs in ski areas, national parks, amusement parks, resorts, hotels, ranches and in any number of other various seasonal jobs. • Applies to genuine quotes in South African Rand from airlines and South African registered businesses and websites for travel that originates/departs from South Africa.
• Detailed quote must be in writing, must be inclusive of all fees such as taxes, surcharges and service fees and must be presented to us prior to booking.
• Fare must be available and able to be booked by the general public when you bring it to us.
• Fares available due to membership of a group or corporate entity or subscription to a closed group are excluded.
• We may offer you an alternative date/airline to get you the best price, but should you be less flexible we guarantee to better whatever you bring us – apples for apples.
• We will better the price by R20 on domestic airfares and R50 on international airfares.
