Summer Camps

The summer camps program gives 18 to 30 year olds the chance to work with children within a variety of environments either as a specialist counselor, who is responsible for teaching the children a particular skill, or as a general counselor, who is required to supervise a bunk of children from rise in the morning until they go to bed at night. Summer camps are about adventure – it’s fun, exciting and it’s the best trip you will ever take! This is your chance to leave your hometown, home country and gain experience in something different by working and living on summer camps with others from all over the world! Anyone who is fun loving, sports loving, children-friendly, outdoor-living, clear-thinking, go-getting, energy-giving, easy-going, culture-sharing or hard-working role models can apply

Summer Camps have been going for hundreds of years in the US and are a North American tradition. Each year millions of children aged 6 to 16 from all over the US look forward to spending anywhere between 1 to 9 weeks at a summer camp. It's their time to break loose - to enjoy themselves, have fun, make friends, try cool new things and get looked after by a lot of people with funny accents!! Life at camp is intense - it's hard work, and in a very short space of time camp becomes your world...and each world is different, because each camp is different. There are several different types of camps:

  • Private camps - the flagships of the great American summer camp tradition. Many have been around a long time. Generally family-owned and cater to children from high-income families - this is where the money is!
  • Agency camps - offer a chance for a truly unique and rewarding experience. Generally agencies are charitable and run camps to support children from either their local area or from a background related to the agencies area of fundraising.
  • Specialist Camps - Certain camps we work with have one particular area of interest that they concentrate on such as tennis, gymnastics or drama. Generally these camps are privately owned and although other activities take place on these camps, the main focus of the programming is the specialist skill.
  • Special Needs Camps - anyone who has volunteered before will tell you that the feeling you get when you know you're truly helping someone is unrivalled and a placement on a special needs camps offers one of the most unique and rewarding experiences you can have.
  • Faith-based Summer Camps offer campers from Christian or Jewish backgrounds the best of both worlds.

As long as you meet the requirements, this is an excellent way of spending up to 9 weeks in the USA. For further information call 0860 400 700 or enquire online.
