You must have a designated visa sponsor for the Work Experience USA visa, and our Independent Option is perfect for those of you who simply want someone for this sponsorship. This package does not include job placement, but gives you total freedom and flexibility in finding a job anywhere in the USA before leaving your home country, or once you are in the USA.

How you find your job is up to you but STUDENT FLIGHTS is there to support you along the way. This option includes:

Online Job Search Guide

Our Online Job Search Guide contains all the information you need to search, find and apply for a job in the USA before you leave home. This invaluable guide also provides you with many extras that make your job search and work/travel experience more efficient and rewarding.

Our exciting Job Search site allows you to:
  • Create your own profile
  • Write your own Resume/CV, and add photos that show your personality. Advice and hints on how US employers want to see your Resume/CV also available.
  • Access our employer search tools to see where in the US our employers are located
  • Search by location, job, employer or company type
  • Review detailed information available on employers that are of interest including contact details.
  • Decide which Employers will be sent the option to review your application.
  • Communicate through the CCUSA Job Search Guide with your prospective employer.
  • Officially accept a job electronically.
  • Read up on how to find accommodation, advice on travelling around the USA, what to do socially around the work location as well as hints on how to better understand American culture and its people.
NOTE: Employers regularly update their information so you will have the most current details about available jobs salaries, benefits and accommodation options. Our independent employers have been educated on the needs of international workers, including the changes in the Social Security Administration and are more likely to allow you to work while your Social Security Card is being processed.

Got your own contacts? NO PROBLEM! Get that job and we will provide you with the information you need to make sure your employer knows the requirements of hiring international employees. It will ultimately be your responsibility to ensure your employer will allow you to work and be paid while you wait for your Social Security card, however CCUSA will do as much as we can to make sure your employer is aware of this. You must give a copy of the Independent Job Offer from to your employer to complete and sign so that we may verify that the job and wage conditions are consistent with the U.S. State Department requirements.

We interview you on behalf of the employers to ensure you get the job that suits you best. Our USA placement staff will get to know you through your application form and interview.

Online Placement Option Employer Directory

Through Footprints, our online support tool, you can access this directory that contains information about the employers on our placement program. Using the directory, you complete a Job Preference form and we will attempt to secure you a job meeting a combination of these preferences.

By completing this form, you tell us what your preferences are and where you want to work. Then our placement staff in the US matches you up with an employer looking for your qualifications!

Our Placement employers have chosen CCUSA because they prefer the personal attention and service we provide in finding them the appropriate person for each job. This personal contact enables us to find you a job suited to your qualifications.

How the Placement Option Works

Using the preferences you indicated on your Job Preference Form as to type of work, employer category, region of the United States, and the importance of employee housing, we do our utmost to find a job combining as many of these factors as possible.

Returnee Option
  • Are you returning to your Employer in the USA on a J-1 work and travel visa?
  • Have you worked in the USA on a J-1 visa before?
  • Are you a full-time tertiary student now and will be returning to full-time study (or enrolled in a full-time course) next year?
  • Are you in good standing with CCUSA?
If you answered YES then there are no restrictions to the number of times that you can participate on the Summer Work Travel Program.

Money Issues

This section outlines the averages of how much you can earn and how much you will need for housing, food and transportation. Please remember that these are only averages. If you work longer or shorter hours, or if you choose to have a second job, your monthly income will increase or decrease proportionally. Hourly wages and housing costs will vary greatly depending on the employer and the location.

Before leaving home, you will need to pay all CCUSA Program Fees and insurance. To help you save money for your trip, fees are paid in increments throughout the year. Please refer to the Program Agreement for specific costs.

Phone Card (with voicemail) Simple Online Application Process - Once you complete the online application form, one of our local representatives will meet with you and lead you through an informal one-on-one question and answer interview. This session tells us more about you and allows you to find out more about the program and which option and jobs are right for you. After this session, we will notify you if you are accepted.

Social Security Card Assistance - This U.S. government card allows you to be paid by your employer in the USA. At the orientation sessions in your home country we will show you how to complete the application and give you information about how to locate the Social Security office closest to your job.

Time to Travel

Once your visa has finished you have an additional 30 days to travel within the USA

Travel Insurance - US government regulations require that all participants have approved insurance while on the program. Our comprehensive work and travel insurance with medical, baggage and liability coverage is compulsory. You must purchase our insurance to cover the length of your visa. Additional coverage is available for your pre or post travel.
